Every spring I get excited about what I know is coming–cherry blossoms, Opening Day, the way Georgia shows out with her dogwoods, azaleas, magnolias and massive oaks. It’s the season of March Madness, Jane Austen revisited, longer days and cool breezes that rustle new leaves.

And then each year brings about its own memories. 2021 marked the year anniversary of the pandemic, my two year anniversary of A Cozy Capsule, more backyard projects, a college friend coming for a visit and tentative outings as the world began to open its doors.

Here are some highlights!

A Cozy Capsule’s Second Year Anniversary

What started out as something to encourage myself to get dressed has expanded into a community full of fun and intelligent women. It’s so fun to spend time with you each day and I will be forever grateful for your support, encouragement, and all of the memes/videos/messages you send me that make me laugh, tear up, think and grow.

My First Braves Game!

I love baseball and was thrilled to attend my first game in years and my first ever Braves game! I was also thrilled to be able to scout future seats in the shade because I don’t know that I’ll ever recover from the farmers tan I got sitting in full sun for hours.

Entertaining Again

We had friends and family over for a spring brunch and it felt so good to see everyone and pull out all the gear for the mimosa bar and coffee bar. Not to mention getting to nosh on our favorite casserole and tie plaid bandanas on the dogs. Having people over is one of my favorite things and I love creating a cozy spot for those we love to take a load off, eat and drink something delicious and just hang.

A friend from college also came for a visit and we gave her a tour of our southern town and surrounding area with and all of the gems that are found here.

The Backyard

And then there was the backyard. Again. Last year we got the news there was a foot of standing water under the house. A grading project commenced full of retaining walls, new sod, a gravel path and so. much. pine. straw. to help get water to flow around the house in a way that made sense.

This year, when it became clear we wouldn’t be going anywhere anytime soon, we decided to “finish” the backyard. Two gravel seating areas were installed using Tennessee Fieldstone and gravel. One area is for a fire pit and the other will become a lounge/dining area. We had 30 hydrangeas planted, peonies, roses and a whole host of other plants to continue to fill in the yard that we really enjoy.

And then the fence blew out. Sigh.

I put the photo of our door/lattice/cinderblock handiwork up there as a reminder that even when you think something is finished, it rarely is. Stay tuned for the fence replacement project!

Progress, not perfection. Though I have to say Spring 2021, you were pretty close to perfect.
