Ahem (she begins typing somewhat nervously). If you’ve been following along for a while, you know I lead a cozy little life. I work a nine-to-five, spend my off time reading books, snuggling with my husband and our dogs, and putting together 20-item capsule wardrobes over on Instagram every month. Due to the pandemic, you haven’t seen much of my travels which will hopefully start to fire up again here soon.
My travels occasionally fall into what I call the “Cozy Woo.” Which is like, woo woo adjacent, if we’re defining “woo woo” as unconventional beliefs. I am a believer in Eastern and Western medicine, and I also find the historic study of astrology and various religions interesting. All of it, to me, is a blend of understanding there is something much bigger than us at work and provides a sort of framework for processing and understanding our humanity. So I kind of trip along paths I find interesting and ponder my life and its meaning as I go about my days.
This got WAY deeper than I intended for it to. What I really wanted to say is, last month I got on a Zoom call with four fun ladies that I travel with and had our Moonology cards read. It was so fun!
Say what now? I know. It was my first time and here’s what I found.
It’s less woo and more about taking a moment to reflect.
I am a big believer in goal setting. My day is pretty much broken up into tiny actions that are set to accomplish short term goals that flow up to long term goals (I’m super fun at parties.) Moonology sets aside time around the New Moon to stop, reflect on what’s going on and what you need. According to astrologer Yasmine Boland (who made the Moonology deck we used), the moon has been seen to possess the power to manifest your dream life.
It’s less about getting answers and more about asking questions.
If we’ve learned nothing else from movies, it’s that things don’t end well when people have the ability to see into the future. There is no way for any of us to know what’s coming up ahead. So this is about setting intentions for the life you want. I love that because of the moon’s cycles there is built in time to stop each month, sit with yourself and your desires and either work through a process to let things go that are holding you back, or ask for what you’d like to be revealed.
Life is short but the days are long and in the words of Annie Dillard, “How we spend our days is, of course, how we spend our lives. What we do with this hour, and that one, is what we are doing.” It’s amazing what a little intention and small actions over time can do.
